Spring is here…

Your body is “waking up” for the year: In Chinese medicine the spring season is associated with your liver system becoming active.

This means more energy and the desire to start things- the positive expression of the liver energy and also the negative expressions of the liver like anger/irritability/frustration, sudden heat flushes/rashes, dry eyes, etc.

Many patients are coming in with sudden flare ups of conditions that are being pushed up to the surface- which is part of the season. If you think of your body as a tree following the cycles of nature, winter is the season where the energy is brought into the core, spring is when it returns to the exterior, summer is the time of full bloom, fall is the time of harvest and death of the leaves so that in winter you conserve energy and rest.

5 ways to promote liver health:

- Take 30 or 40-minute brisk walks-The more liver chi you have- the more it needs to move!

- Do tai chi for 30 minutes each day or follow the 5 Elements exercise from our Youtube channel,

These exercises gently massage the vital organs and stretch the connective tissues (joints, tendons, and ligaments) to give you youthful energy and decrease seasonal health problems.

- Eat deep greens like roasted kale salads each day. Remember to cook your veggies- your body is designed to digest cooked food to break it down and assimilate nutrients. Simple chop dark greens into fork-size bites and bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 4 minutes.

- Avoid greasy foods. Your liver has to break down fats so avoid deep fried foods. Steaming and light sautéing is healthier. Drink Sunrider's Calli and Fortune Delight(TM) herbals teas to help soothe the liver and promote detoxifying throughout the body.

-Avoid alcohol.

Acupuncture can help alleviate symptoms from seasonal/ liver system imbalance such as, dry eyes, allergies, skin irritation and other things that pop up suddenly with the return of heat.
